Department of Translation and Interpreting

In today's world, where intercultural communication is more important than ever, the Department of Translation and Interpreting, which provides education to establish effective communication between different societies, consists of four main branches: English-Turkish, German-Turkish, Arabic-Turkish, and Chinese-Turkish. The aim of the Department of Translation and Interpreting is to train translators with professional skills in written and oral communication who can meet the increasing communication needs on an international platform. Established in 2018 under the School of Foreign Languages, our department was transferred to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences as of November 2023. Our department, which has students in two main branches (English-Arabic), admitted its first students to the Arabic Translation and Interpreting department in the 2020-2021 academic year, and began admitting students to the English Translation and Interpreting department in the 2024-2025 academic year. Furthermore, a Master's program in English Translation and Interpreting with thesis was opened in 2024 under our department.

Within the framework of undergraduate programs, courses aimed at improving foreign language skills are designed to increase students' proficiency in foreign languages. In addition, courses in Turkish, which are accepted in the modern academic world, are offered to enable future translators to learn both languages in all their aspects. The Translation and Interpreting undergraduate program also provides education in current issues and cultural fields to respond to the needs of a developing society. By offering courses in different translation fields (medicine, law, economics, literature, natural sciences, social sciences disciplines, and journalism), translators are equipped with the ability to translate in a variety of subjects. With elective foreign language courses, translators have the opportunity to learn a second foreign language, and the goal is to train them to be fully equipped in both written and oral translation.

Graduates of the undergraduate program, who are highly qualified translators, work in various government institutions, European Union organizations, translation agencies, private companies, or as academics at universities, or actively participate in the translation sector by establishing their own translation agencies.
